FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
1. I am unable to pay the cost of $25 but would like to attend. Can accommodation be made for me?
-
Absolutely. If you would like to attend but are facing financial difficulties, please speak with Pastor Brendyn and Rockyview can cover your cost.
2. What does the small group format look like on Tuesday nights?
-
During the meal and video, you will be sitting at a table with eight (8) other people. This will be made up of three groups of three people, with each group of three forming a smaller “triad” group. Each triad will be people of the same gender. Following the video, instead of remaining with your table of “nine,” you and your two other triad members will be relocating to an area of the church (prayer room, nursery, spread through the sanctuary, etc) that will allow you to go deeper and more personal in conversation, without being overheard by people in other groups. Remember: vulnerability, unconditional acceptance and confidentiality are key to the soul care journey, enabling a safe space to share and be open.
3. Can my small group attend the Soul Care Course?
-
Yes, we are encouraging all small groups to attend. However, please note that the maximum triad group size (during the discussion times after the video) is three people of the same gender, so you would need to divide up your small group accordingly.
4. Is there a leader for each triad group?
-
No. Each triad group of three will walk through the discussion questions together. There is no need for a leader or facilitator. Simply walk through each question, allowing each person to share for each question.
5. Do I need to read the chapter of the book each week when we will be watching the video together on the same material on Tuesday nights?
-
Yes. It is critical to both read the book and pray and reflect before the session each week. This is because you will want to come prepared to be able to discuss and process further with your triad members. You will only get out of the course as much as you are willing to put in. Life change requires you to put in some extra effort/work on your own time. The video each week will be a summary of what you read, but it will also provide some additional insights that were not in the book (and vice-versa with the book which has separate insights).
6. How much time each week should I expect to spend on this course?
-
In addition to the 2.5 to 3 hours each Tuesday night, plan to spend 1.5 to 2 hours reading the respective chapter each week, plus an additional 1 hour praying, reflecting and journaling with God on your own at home.
7. Who is able to attend the Soul Care Course?
-
Anyone who has received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour can attend.
8. Is there a minimum age requirement for the Soul Care Course?
-
High school students would be permitted to be a part of the course, provided that they are able to form their own triad with 2 other high school students of the same gender. High school students under the age of 19 are not permitted to join an adult triad. Anyone younger than high school age is not permitted to attend.
9. Will child care be provided while I attend the Soul Care Course?
-
No. We are unable to provide child care at this time.
10. What does the meal look like? Will accommodations be made for dietary restrictions?
-
Dinner will typically be in the form of chili and buns, or something similar. So the meal will be lighter in comparison to what is provided at Alpha. Unfortunately, due to resource constraints (labour and cost), accommodations for dietary restrictions will not be possible for the Soul Care Course. If you have dietary restrictions, please eat before coming to the church at 6:30pm. Thank you for your understanding.
